The collection is modest and needs to expand as this subject area is one of growing interest to the community at large. As a rapidly developing field, the significance of the collection will depend greatly on its currency and the copyright of resources will be constantly monitored to ensure the most current information is available for patrons. The collection librarians understand that community plays a big role in changing farming practices and the collection will be periodically compared to similar collections at other universities, as well as to collections at botanical and horticultural libraries to be sure that key works in the subject area are represented in the collection. The librarians in charge of the collection hope to use the resources in their care to inspire sustainable agricultural practices at the local, state, and regional (New England) levels and will host exhibitions and events on related topics and the importance of resources in the collection to further its reach.
